About ThrivePoint
Our Purpose
Our purpose is to provide students with a choice in completing their high school education by providing a structured learning environment with personalized education plans, including computer-based courses and mastery-based instruction and awarding a diploma upon fulfilling graduation requirements. We serve as an alternative high school, providing credit recovery for students with poor academic standing, adjudicated youth, pregnant/parenting students, dropout students, those behind in credits, and students with behavioral issues.
ThrivePoint High School is the first school in the ThrivePoint network, an organization focused on helping students who struggle in regular school settings. We work in Arizona because we care deeply about the state and are committed to supporting communities across the Southwest.
Angela Hollingsworth, our Director of Schools, leads our Arizona schools with passion and dedication. She has over 20 years of experience in education, including working as a principal at Floresville ISD, where she helped teachers grow and brought new ideas to classrooms. She also worked at San Antonio ISD, supporting students with job training and career planning. Angela’s experience in special education and creating district-wide programs shows her strong commitment to helping all students succeed.
Angela’s skills in leadership, staff development, and social-emotional learning help her create positive, student-centered environments where learners can grow and thrive.
Angela’s work at ThrivePoint Schools is part of a bigger story. Our co-founders, Timothy Andrew Smith and Shannon Smith, started with a vision of making quality education accessible to everyone. They first opened e-Institute in Arizona, one of the state’s earliest charter schools, which focused on international studies and languages.
As they continued their work, Timothy and Shannon saw the need for more flexible learning options. This led to the opening of ThrivePoint High School in 2014. Since then, ThrivePoint has expanded across the Southwest, with a school in Las Vegas, NV, and a new school opening in Salt Lake City, Utah, in fall 2025.
